An Everyday Guest

In a gigantic hall
There were people innumerable
Each girl more beautiful than the other
It was not the charm of their youthful skin
But the glow of the happiness within.

Some angry, some anxious, yet all patient
The guest of the night hasn't turned up yet
Of course it was the same guest every night.

No matter how old he grew,
No matter how old they grew,
He still was special,
Because he was the only one of his kind.

They waited and waited,
They traveled long from place to place
Lighting up every dark space
Lest their guest get lost.

Wherever they went,
Without the special one
Darkness prevailed, day never came.

Each one still looked as vibrant as always
None but their own selves knew this was pretence
Should their special one show up any time
Not one of them could disappoint him.

Not knowing how long it had been
For it's already been countless ages
In despair, they waited in hope.
There was no life otherwise.

Before hope deserted them
And anger burnt them alive
In came their star
None but the Moon
To the rescue of the Stars.

Separation and sorrow were now things of the past
In the company of the Moon they had no place
And were forgotten.
That new-moon is sure to come again in the future
Was forgotten.
Everything else but the Moon
Was forgotten.
There was no life otherwise.
