CWG Theme Song

Well, it is perfectly alright that some might have liked the song and some might not have. But asking Rahman to re-compose the song is utterly ridiculous and childish. One cannot talk business here saying "I paid you X amount for the song, so the song should be Y units good". Well, for the plain reason that judging music is subjective. What seems cacophony for one might as well excite another. And comparing it with Waka-Waka, I personally do not feel that Waka-Waka is awesome. Yet there are many others who liked it. Fine. Absolutely no problem.

One definite reason for Waka-Waka becoming so very famous is that it is the anthem of the Soccer World Cup. Where do the CWG stand in comparison with the FIFA WC in terms of popularity? How many of us know if CWG have a theme song always? Have we ever heard any other CWG theme song? Majority of the answers would be in the negative. We now care just because India is the host. So, it is no wonder that the online popularity of this song cannot compare with Shakira's Waka-Waka.

I sincerely request the extremely efficient organizing team of CWG and our very duty-minded politicians to stop commenting on Rahman's commitment and get back to work so that at least half the arrangements are complete by the time the games commence. And you CANNOT ask him to re-compose the song. Just because Maa Tujhe Salam was a masterpiece, every song of Rahman can't be so. Its because of this reason that we recognized masterpieces so. Being rational, we must understand this.

And as fans, while all of us have every right to express any disappointment with Rahman's song, lets not forget what he has given us and question his integrity. Not everybody can be Rahman. Maybe it takes 5 crore rupees and six months for someone like Rahman to compose a song for the CWG. No one else can know this because nobody else is Rahman, other than Rahman himself.

After all, music is not consumer goods to get an exact quantity for an exact amount. Whatever be the time he spent on it and whatever the amount he demanded for it, a song is a song and you might like it or not like it. Lets leave it there and move on.
